06.05.2013 - VCC holds Tag der offenen Tür in Seebarn
Vienna Cricket Club welcomed visitors to its "Tag der offenen Tür" event on 5 May, introducing the game to around 30 people. among them some children. With various coaching stations and equipment, visitors could try their hand at batting, bowling and catching, before the assembled group played a fun game of cricket out on the wicket.
Guests included moderators and guests invited through vienna-expats.net - an expat portal about life in Vienna. A recent arrival in Vienna, the Pro-Consul at the British Embassy also came out to inspect the facilities in glorious spring sunshine, having previously been involved with cricket in Düsseldorf, where he was previously posted. Jari Schabel, a longstanding member of the ECC Umpiring Panel and founder of Tampere CC in Finland, who was also visiting Vienna at the weekend also took a detour to visit the ground where the Finnish team has played in three tournaments. The sunny weather was also a good opportunity to get the bowling machine, net cage, crazycatch and other coaching aids out for people to learn and improve some skills. Hopefully the British Embassy might unearth some more cricketing talent amidst their ranks - only a few years ago they used to play some matches and hopefully the open day might have sewn new seeds to revive interest in cricket.

On 1-2 June, Vienna Cricket Club will be presenting cricket at Schloss Rosenburg, so the club day was a very useful dress rehearsal for everyone involved in that Open Day.
